Vanessa Barienbrock, RN, CNM
Vanessa has been a part of the South Coast Midwifery family since 2004. She has worn many different hats at South Coast Midwifery, including birth assistant, medical assistant, client, and midwife.
Vanessa was inspired to pursue a career in midwifery after witnessing the incredible empowerment gained by a close friend through birthing her child naturally at home. Vanessa then completed doula training and began working at South Coast Midwifery as a birth assistant. After working as a birth assistant for a few years, she worked for a non-profit organization in Tanzania that sought to empower women by providing maternal and child health services in disaster and conflict affected areas. In addition to the work she did in Tanzania, Vanessa has worked alongside midwives and traditional birth attendants in Central America and India.
Vanessa completed formal midwifery training at the University of California, San Francisco. Shortly after completing her Master’s Degree, she experienced the ultimate lesson in midwifery when she gave birth to her son Clay at home, assisted by Lorri.
Vanessa lives in Costa Mesa with her husband Zach and their 2 sons (both born at home with SCM), Clay and Emmett.
