Erin is our amazing student midwife, primary birth assistant, and Birth Details Class instructor. She was born and raised in the small town of Belen, New Mexico. Erin attended a liberal arts college, in Durango, CO and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Certification in Elementary Education K-6 from Fort Lewis College.
Erin spent her entire adult years working with children of various ages from newborn to high school age, both in the public education system and later as a caregiver/educator in peoples’ homes. Child development and wellness is something she cares deeply about and has dedicated a good portion of her life to. She specifically found a deep passion for working with children with special and behavioral needs, and spent several years working alongside amazing families in their private homes. Erin’s desire to learn and expand her scope of understanding in this field grew, and she felt a gravitational pull to learn about and work with newborns. She then spent several years working one-on-one with newborns and families transitioning to parenthood, and it was a joyous experience that ultimately led her to her current path of midwifery.
After training to be a doula through Natural Resources in San Francisco, and attending home and hospital births, Erin found her “calling” to midwifery when she attended her first birth as a doula; a beautiful home birth eight years ago. The “light bulb” went on and she knew deep in her soul that this would be her life’s work. In this work she can continue to serve families and cultivate meaningful relationships, all while empowering and assisting women in making informed choices that have profound impacts on their family’s wellness. Erin is currently studying at the Nizhoni Institute of Midwifery, San Diego, and has almost finished two years of a three year midwifery program.
Erin is deeply passionate about the world, people, and travels. Traveling with her partner has been the most rewarding and enlightening experience she has ever had. She finds great happiness and joy in the unknown and unfamiliar. Meeting new people and experiencing new cultures allows her to be a more compassionate and empathetic individual, and has shown her how alike as humans we all are. Erin has travelled to and lived in many countries. Some of her favorite places visited include Guatemala, Nepal, Cambodia, Burma, Indonesia, Japan, Turkey, El Salvador, Laos, and Mexico.
Erin hopes to merge her two passions of travel and midwifery in the future, and open a birth and education center abroad. Teaching and serving women is the greatest gift she can share with this world.
Erin currently resides in Laguna Beach with her partner Jeff, and poodle Kailash. When not at a birth or in school, they spend their free time on the beach, hiking in the hills, and are constantly seeking their next adventure and traveling abroad any chance they get.
