About Us

South Coast Midwifery is a first-class women’s health center and home to Orange County’s most established birth center. Our exclusive birth center was the first accredited center in the County. The founder and director, Lorri Walker, RNC, NP, CNM, is one of the Nation’s best known midwives. She has created a warm, nurturing place for women and their families to come for personalized health care, support, empowerment, and social interaction with people of like mind. A visit to our Orange County Birth Center makes it easy to see why women might choose to have their babies with a midwife, and out of the hospital, instead of the conventional, hospital method. Here, it’s okay to dim the lights, wander around at your leisure in your own pajamas, slip in or out of a bathtub, and play music in a private, cushy room that looks more like a luxurious hotel suite than a labor and delivery room. Our Orange County Midwives and doulas make it a point to let women take their time—something that’s becoming increasingly rare at hospitals throughout California, especially in Orange County, where the opposition to nurse-midwifery-led-births, which often focuses on natural, generally slower birthing, is relentless. Our cozy, home-like center has been doing its thing quietly and successfully for almost 18 years. We accept most insurance, as well as offer a wide variety of payment plans and discount options. Call today for your complimentary consultation – we’re eager for you to experience the difference of professional care with a personal focus! The healthy female body is designed to give birth without intervention in most cases. As birth attendants, our role is to be your “lifeguard”:

• Watching and assisting as needed
• Women should be treated as healthy until proven otherwise.
• In empowering a woman by educating her about her options and including her in decision making.
• In minimizing risks in a normal pregnancy and labor by elimination of interventions which increase risks.
• In being prepared and ready for any unforeseen complication.
• In labor and delivery in the Midwifery Model of Care.

The Midwifery Model of Care

The Midwifery Model of Care is based on the fact that pregnancy and birth are normal life events. The Midwifery Model of Care includes: monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well- being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle; providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support; minimizing technological interventions; and identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention. The application of this woman-centered model has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
